Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Welcome aboard :D from what I can gather there are several member's that run their cars on LPG, myself included :D your best bet is to seek the advice of your local LPG installer if you have one? if not here in the UK you can get DIY kits to fit most vehicles, here is a UK site for DIY kits..........http://www.lpg-kits.com/index.htm depending on the size of the tank you want depends on where you mount it? you can fit a 60Ltr Toroidal in the place of the spare wheel or go bigger and mount one inside the rear load area but lose a seat :D I went for the spare wheel mount option, it does limit your range but it's still better than running a TDI <_< good luck in your search for a conversion to LPG :D alentejodive PS: As you can read, my English is ...... sorry Yes :D and your English is a lot better than my non existent Portuguese <_< Quote
Guest alentejodive Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Hi, vr6galaxy. Thanks for your post. Near the place i live (about 50 Kms), there is one LPG installer, that i have already visit. And in Lisbon (about 70 Kms from my place), there are some more installers, that i shell visit when i understand a litle more about this matter. He said to me that in my car he could install an "Italian Sequencial Multipoint Injection system". I didn Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 To get round the valve problem you need to fit a flashlube kit the best kit to fit is the "Italian Sequencial Multipoint Injection system" the other systems with a mixer that sits in line with the throttle body is more prone to back fires if not set up correctly! and it can cause damage to the throttle body and the air trunking! the injection systems usually have the LPG injectors mounted as close to the inlet valves as possible, usually mounted in the inlet manifold this means that only a small amount of gas is stored in the manifold and if there is a back fire it's usually a small one! Guest alentejodive Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 Can someone tell me what Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 12, 2005 Report Posted January 12, 2005 Another UK LPG installation company to give you idea of your needs the size of tank is dictated by it's depth, you will need a certain amount of clearance between the tank the road and any thing under the car thats in the way! fuel tank, exhaust, brake lines etc your installer should have a rough Idea of the tank size needed to meet the safety requirements! I have 60Ltr tank fitted that gives me 46Ltr of gas as you only fill to 80% of the tanks capacity to allow for expansion I also have a skid plate fitted! it's been used a couple of times since I lowered the car! Guest alentejodive Posted January 18, 2005 Report Posted January 18, 2005 Hi, vr6galaxy. In your last post, you wrote:"I also have a skid plate fitted! it's been used a couple of times since I lowered the car!" What Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted January 18, 2005 Report Posted January 18, 2005 It is a metal plate designed to be the first thing that hits the ground, to protect other parts of the car - such as an lpg fueltank ;) Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 18, 2005 Report Posted January 18, 2005 Ivor is correct ;) although I will add that the only times it has been used is in car parks! the high kerbs they use have been caught a couple of times when backing into spaces  funny though they never were high enough before I lowered the suspension  Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 18, 2005 Report Posted January 18, 2005 Without removeing the head and having hardened valve seats fitted the way round the problem is to install a flashlube kit Quote
